Empowering communities to create local impact through education, technology, and collaboration.
It Takes a Global Village is a Democrify Foundation initiative that promotes education, technology, economic opportunity, and collaboration across borders. By helping people learn from one another and use emerging technologies wisely, communities can create meaningful local impact.
What “It Takes a Global Village” means here
In this work, “global village” does not mean a single, uniform culture. It means a living network of teachers, students, schools, and communities that can learn from one another without losing their own identity.
Today, the initiative begins with Democrify Foundation's collaboration with DeAfrica, supporting teachers and students throughout all 54 nations of Africa. Current efforts focus on helping participants use generative AI to better understand complex problems, explore alternative approaches, and develop ideas that can create meaningful impact within their own schools, communities, and countries.
The goal is not to prescribe solutions from the outside. The goal is to help people develop their own ideas, strengthen their own communities, and share what they learn with others.
How the Global Village model works
Communities begin by identifying meaningful educational, technological, economic, and community challenges. Participants then use collaboration, critical thinking, and relevant technologies—including generative AI—to better understand those challenges, explore possibilities, and develop practical solutions that can be tested, refined, and shared with others.
- 1. Support teachers. Help educators use AI as a tool for instruction, creativity, and student empowerment.
- 2. Engage students. Encourage students to identify problems or opportunities in their own community.
- 3. Develop projects. Use human+AI collaboration to research, plan, test, and improve ideas.
- 4. Share locally. Let students pursue work that has meaning within their own school, country, or community.
- 5. Share globally. Highlight successful ideas so others across Africa and beyond can learn from them.
Over time, these efforts can create a growing library of practical examples, showing how AI can support learning, opportunity, and community impact.
Who It Takes a Global Village is for
It Takes a Global Village is for people and organizations who believe that stronger communities are built locally, but become even stronger when they collaborate globally—sharing ideas, learning from one another, and using education, technology, and innovation to expand opportunity.
- Teachers who want practical ways to use AI to support learning and student creativity.
- Students who want to pursue ideas that can make a difference in their own community.
- Schools and learning networks building real-world, future-focused educational experiences.
- Community leaders and nonprofits interested in locally grounded innovation.
- Sponsors and supporters who want to help bring AI-powered opportunity to more students.
